I was lost in thought this weekend.
I was lost in thought this weekend.
Sitting on a bench. Watching crowds of people come and go.
It was surprisingly peaceful.
I was at a waterpark.
Other than water pumps and staffs' walkie-talkies, there wasn't much need or value in anything too advanced. Phones were out of sight, in lockers or dry bags, likely to prevent water damage.
Waiting in lines, people were fully present, standing idle.
Talking, laughing, or just gazing off into the distance.
It felt like stepping back in time.
A remnant of sobriety amidst our tech-drunk existence.
We talk about mindfulness like it’s a skill to develop.
But maybe it’s just the default state, when there’s nothing else competing for our attention.
I was reminded that presence isn't something we've forgotten.
It's something we've engineered away.
We're only as distracted as we allow ourselves to be.
But if one day at the waterpark is a good indicator, maybe we're not so far gone after all.
