Observation: The only competitive advantage left for entry-level knowledge workers in America is in-office work.
Painful Reality: Someone with 5-10x your skill is available at half your price via offshore.
Absent patriotism or altruistic intent, it's ALMOST impossible to compete with that when you're just starting out.
If you're willing to relocate and work onsite, you'll have outsized opportunities over your competition (other entry-level people). You don't have to do it forever, but it's disproportionately valuable when starting a new career.
A simple gap exists:
- There are plenty of companies that still want people in office.
- Fewer and fewer employees are willing to work onsite
Want your shot? Fill the gap.
Going into an office is a small price to pay in order to kickstart your career.
Plus, you'll likely be better for it. Face time with senior colleagues is more impactful than most people realize.
