What "level" is your assistant?

Level 0:
You give them work, but you don’t trust it’ll get done.

Level 1:
You give them work, and they get it done.

Level 2:
You give them work, and they get it done well.

Level 3:
They proactively take work off your plate and get it done.

Level 4:
They proactively take work off your plate and get it done well.

Level 5:
They take work off your plate and get it done better than you.

A few observations:
• Knowledge workers without an assistant are likely experiencing brain-drain.
• Plenty of people tolerate Level 0, but that assistant should be fired.
• Most people settle for Level 1, which should be the bare minimum.
• The people who rave about their assistants seem to have Level 4 and Level 5.

These levels are part of the issue I have with people claiming AI can replace an assistant.

For the foreseeable future, AI is the thing we have to turn to (Level 0-2), but it's not autonomous and coming to us (Level 3-5).
