Happy 25th Anniversary to Spanx!
Sara Blakely and I go WAY back...
She just doesn't know it.

I first heard about Sara from Yalanda Bell, my high school marketing teacher.

Even then, Sara's story was legendary.
Inventor, entrepreneur, and the queen of "shooting your shot."

In my mind, she occupies one of the limited seats around the table of "indomitable will".

Scrappy. Persistent. Personable.

Many years have passed since high school, but Sara is still hustling.

But now, it's personal...

I attended an event recently.
My wife heard Sara might attend.

"You can only go if you get a picture with Sara Blakely."

At first, I laughed it off and booked my ticket for the event.

Fast forward one week.
The event was wrapping up.
I was exhausted and ready to leave...

Then I remembered my wife's words.
I was ready to dismiss them again, before I paused.

A photo with Sara Blakely?
That's crazy, right?
Do I really want to be "one of those people"?
You shouldn't meet your heroes, right?

A big event with thousands of people, who would have blamed me for not getting a photo? No one.

Excuse after excuse.

To try and fail is one thing.
To fail without making an attempt? Not my style.

Plus, it's freaking Sara Blakely!
What would Sara do?!
"Go for it!"

(Well, at least that's what the Sara in my head would do.)

So, a little intention, plus an extra hour at the event...
✅ Mission accomplished

PS. Sara was a GREAT sport about it. I told her what my wife said and she replied, "Well, let's do it. Gimme your phone." 💯
