I'm amazed by how many people have never heard about ACEs...
Adverse Childhood Experiences

There is a proven correlation between a handful of early adolescent experiences and long term outcomes.

To be clear, it's probabilities... not destiny.
A person's ACE score doesn't determine their fate.
But it does tilt their odds.

The more ACEs someone has, the higher their risk for things like heart disease, depression, addiction, early mortality, and more.

What are the ACEs?

Abuse
1. Physical abuse
2. Emotional abuse
3. Sexual abuse

Neglect
4. Physical neglect
5. Emotional neglect

Household Dysfunction
6. Domestic violence toward a parent or caregiver
7. Substance abuse in the home
8. Mental illness in the home
9. Parental separation or divorce
10. Incarceration of a household member

Unchecked, these childhood experiences become adult health crises... and we rarely teach it or talk about it.

A beautiful side effect of ACEs... I can't seem to talk about them without people silently calculating their own score. It's instinctual.

If you're reading this, I'd bet you have done the same.

When did you learn about ACEs?
What observations come to mind?
What resistance?
