It's the next, Eternal September.

It's the next, Eternal September.
In the early days of the internet, surges of new users could be traced back to one source: the academic calendar.

Each September, new cohorts of college students would gain access to the internet for the first time. So, volume spiked.

These surges would flood existing culture and norms on even the most popular forums and message boards. New folks needed to be educated and onboarded.

In the process, things evolved.

Each September, the pattern would repeat until AOL really did bring America online with their gateway service. The stream became constant.

Users at the time reported every day was now September.
Hence the term "Eternal September".

Now, it's happening again.

Volume is spiking.
The new pace, now constant.

Anyone can participate.
Anyone can generate content.
Anyone can sound thoughtful.
Anyone can build.

We can't go back to August.
So, one question matters:
What will we do about it?
