Nothing is ever “just one thing.”

Nothing is ever “just one thing.”
Example: We went on a family hike this weekend.

It’s the tough trail in front of our house.
I run it weekly, this was our kids’ first time hiking it.

So, it was also our family’s first time doing it together.

It was also their first time in proper hiking shoes, instead of slipping around in sneakers.

At the top, my wife and I turned back.
The kids kept going with my dad.

Their first time hiking without us.
Their first time hiking with just him.

Nothing is ever just one thing.

Something about it sparked something in my youngest (7yo).
She insisted we go back for sunrise.

So the next morning at 6am, we set off again.
This time, in the dark.

Her first hike in the dark, with a headlamp.

Too cloudy. No sunrise.
On the way down, it started to rain.

Her first hike in the rain.
Her first run in the rain as we hustled home.

She wasn’t deterred.
The next morning, I had to work.

She went back with my dad.
Just the two of them.
Another first.

We like to label things as single events.

• A meeting.
• A meal.
• A race.
• A hike.

But nothing is ever just one thing.

It’s dozens of micro-moments, stacking together.

That’s how courage builds.
That’s how trust transfers.
That’s how identity forms.
