Waymo + Uber is magic.
Waymo + Uber is magic.
I’ve taken 8 rides in the last 4 days.
4 from Waymo. 4 from humans.
No contest.
Waymo wins.
It’s the why I’m wrestling with…
- timing rideshare is tricky.
Order too early and risk the driver having to wait. I hate feeling like I’m costing them money.
Order too late and it could take too long to match with a driver. Now I’m leaving other humans waiting at my destination… ggrrr.
I don’t like that tension.
Waymo, the machine waits. Order early.
- tipping.
I have pretty low standards when it comes to driving… so I simply end up tipping because I know how little drivers make.
I don’t like that tension.
Waymo, no tip. (It’s not even requested)
- human potential
Just because there are millions of human drivers doesnt mean they enjoy it. I’ve never met a driver that said, “I’m doing my life’s work.”
But, I understand people gotta eat, provide for their family, and make money. Driving around a crowded, pothole-ridden city isn’t an easy way to earn a living.
I don’t like that tension.
Waymo, unclicks the seatbelt for that person to do more than chaufer me around. (I’m not worth it)
-
So, Waymo.
It feels like it’s my humanity that is driving me toward a nonhuman solution to the transportation problem.
What I strange conflict.
The transition won’t be without pain… but having tried the product, it’s clear the change is inevitable.
